Personal Fitness Trainer San Francisco

Looking for a personal fitness trainer in San Francisco who actually listens, knows how to challenge you, and creates a program that fits your goals, not some template?

I’m Ethan Rich, a certified personal trainer, movement specialist, and lifelong athlete based right here in SF. I work with everyday people from all walks of life. Men, women, young athletes, busy professionals, folks starting over, and those who just want to move like themselves again, I train them all.

What do they all have in common? They want to stop guessing and start training with purpose.

What Makes My Training Different

This is not a group class. It is not a loud, packed gym floor. When we train together, it is just you and me with focused, custom-built programming based on your body, your lifestyle, and your goals.

We always start with a full-body movement and performance assessment. That means mobility, posture, strength imbalances, flexibility, and any past injuries. From there, I build a training program that is unique to you, whether you want to build muscle, drop body fat, improve athletic performance, or simply feel stronger and more capable day to day.

Every session is tailored. No guesswork. No wasted reps.

Train With Same Commitment and Care

I train a wide range of clients from women seeking strength without bulk or improved movement patterns to men aiming to build muscle, correct posture, or train like athletes. Whether you're returning from injury, managing a desk-bound lifestyle, or preparing for a competitive event, I tailor every program to your individual needs.

My coaching is grounded in real assessments and delivers real progress, with a focus on strength, tone, core stability, and long-term performance. I've worked with dozens of male and female clients across San Francisco, bringing structure, accountability, and results that last, whatever your goals or starting point.

No gimmicks. No one-size-fits-all approach. Just professional, hands-on coaching for real results.

San Francisco Training, Built for San Francisco Life

You are busy. You work long hours. You sit more than you want to. You probably deal with stress and inconsistent energy, like most of us in the Bay Area.

Your training should make you feel better, not add more stress.

That is why I train out of a private space here in San Francisco, quiet, efficient, and focused. Your time is respected. Your progress is tracked. Your sessions are built to enhance your day, not crush it.

Some of my clients are in their 20s. Others are in their 50s. Some have never trained before. Others were former athletes. They all want the same thing: to move better, feel better, and stop spinning their wheels.

  • Busy professionals needing structure and stress relief

  • Former athletes returning to training

  • Clients with old injuries or chronic pain

  • People who are tired of “quick fix” programs and want to do it right

Whether your goal is fat loss, strength, confidence, injury prevention, or just consistency, I am here to coach you through it.

Want to finally train with purpose?

What a Session Looks Like

No two sessions are the same, because no two people are the same.

Some days we will focus on strength. Other days, it might be hypertrophy, core engagement, or speed and power. You will learn how to train smart, recover properly, and build a foundation that lasts.

I coach you through every movement. You will know what we are working on, why it matters, and how to carry it into your life.

This is not about perfection. It is about showing up, doing the work, and letting consistency win.

  • Our training is individualized and designed to optimize both short and long term progression. Every client starts with an in-depth assessment so I understand your movement patterns, injury history, and goals. From there, training is built specifically for you. The goal is to help you move fluidly, build real strength, and feel confident doing things you may have avoided for years. I train people like corporate athletes: busy adults who want to perform, stay healthy, and keep progressing without beating their bodies up.

  • Yes. I work with middle and high school athletes with a strong emphasis on fundamentals. That means learning how to move well, build coordination, and develop strength, power, and speed safely. The focus for my youth athletes is to expose their bodies and minds into structured strength training to improve long term performance while mitigating injury risk.

  • Most clients see great results training two to three times per week. That frequency allows us to build consistency, improve strength, and recover properly between sessions. I would rather have you train at a pace you can maintain long term than try to do too much and burn out. The goal is steady progress, not short bursts followed by long breaks.

The more you train, the more results you’ll see. Some of my clients train twice a week and some train 4 or even 5 times a week. No matter how frequently you train, you must train at a space that is consistent and sustainable. Consistency is more of an indicator of long term success than any other metric. The goal is steady progress, not short bursts followed by long breaks.

  • Yes! Online training sessions are an hour long and are $170/session. I also work with some clients asynchronously, writing their workouts each month which costs $300/month communicating only via email or text. My primary focus is in person, one on one coaching. The biggest value I provide is real time feedback, hands on coaching, and adjusting sessions based on how you are moving and feeling that day. While we may talk about what to work on outside of sessions, I believe proper coaching and accountability make the biggest difference, especially when learning or refining movement

  • Yes. All of my clients have demanding jobs, some with unpredictable schedules, and some with frequent travel. I design training to be efficient and realistic so it fits into your life instead of taking it over. If something comes up, we adjust. The goal is to help you stay consistent over time, even when life is busy.
